Incase

I might not rely on my MacBook Pro like I used to, but that doesn't mean I don't want it protected.

My favorite kind of laptop case is very similar to my favorite phone cases: slim, clear and easy to take on and off.

Incase's hardshell case ticks off all three of those boxes.

Of those three, I was most impressed with how slim the case was. The reason I'm so obsessed with size is that a bulky case makes laptops less backpack-friendly. More importantly, it adds weight, which can be bothersome when traveling.

There's no denying that this case added a little weight and bulk to my MacBook Pro, but not enough to make it feel totally different. I keep my laptop in a stand all the time and this case was thin enough to fit into the standard "MacBook Pro Retina" sized rubber molding. I was prepared to have to change that for a larger one, but was pleasantly surprised that even with the case on it was a snug fit.

The reason I recommend people get a clear case is that I've always been a bigger fan of MacBook stickers than funky colored covers. If you feel differently, Incase does have different colored versions of this case available.

I've kept my MacBook Pro naked until now, not just because of adding additional bulk, but because some snap-on MacBook covers can be a pain to take off and put back on. The reason to do that is to clean the case, which accumulates dust and crumbs over time. In the past, I nearly broke a hard case trying to get it off of my MacBook Pro. Not very user-friendly.

That's not a problem with this case, I was able to pop the top and bottom parts of the shell on and off without much effort. Don't get me wrong, the case will stay on securely under normal circumstances. But, after applying a non-excessive amount of force to the corners, I was able to get the case off. I'll probably only have to do that a couple of times a year, but it's good to know it won't be a chore.

If you're someone who travels with their MacBook often, this case is made with you in mind. It won't add a lot of extra strain on your back and shoulders, but your laptop will be protected in case it falls. Pairing this case with a rubber keyboard protector will leave you with MacBook Pro that's still thin and light, but protected from the laws of physics and a tipped glass of water.
